This month Ms.Freeborn’s 4th & 5th class and Ms Feeney’s 1st class hosted our January Assembly to celebrate both the Chinese New Year and the celtic calendar’s 1st day of spring, St Brigid’s Day.
While St. Brigid and Chinese New Year originate from very different cultural and religious traditions, there are some interesting symbolic similarities and common themes of renewal, light and birth. Both holidays celebrate a fresh start, with a focus on hope, prosperity, and change.
Both classes chose to sing a song by Kildare’s own singer songwriter, Lea Heart, which she wrote for St Brigid’s fifteen hundred anniversary celebrations last year.
She composed the lyrics ‘There’s a fire in our hearts’ inspired by St.Brigid’s flame. The song aims to encourage young people today to stand up for what they believe in, show resilience and make a difference. It’s called ‘Army of the Young’ .
The special assembly ended in unison with ‘We sing a song to Brigid’, a firm favourite at Bunscoil Bhride.
Happy St.Brigid’s Day everyone!
