Our 6th Class basketball team have made history this year as they won both the Cumann na mBunscol Basketball Championship in January 2019 followed by the league in March. 20 girls from the class trained every Wednesday after school and they also ensured several P.E. lessons were devoted to the cause! What a wonderful achievement by a super group of girls :)
Well done to our extremely talented and hardworking debating team who reached the semi-finals of the Concern Primary Debating competition, placing them in the top four schools in Kildare. What an amazing achievement!
For the Junior Entrepreneur Programme we made 'Light Jars' to sell to our school community. We had five different teams which we were placed in according to our talents: The Finance Team, The Marketing Team, The Design and Production Team, The Sales Team and The Story-Telling team. It was a very busy few months getting everything together and we learned that entrpreneurs have to work very hard in order to be successful! Thankfully our products were very popular and we made a profit, some of which we gave to The Irish Cancer Society on Daffodil Day and some of which we will use towards a pizza party in June.
Congratulations to the girls in Sixth Class who made their Confirmation on Sunday March 24th 2019.
On Monday March 11th 2019 6th Class headed to Mt. Saint Anne’s Retreat Centre in Co. Laois to engage in a retreat as part of their preparation for Confirmation. The girls had a fabulous day as they had the opportunity to engage in many activities including prayer, chatting, meditation and painting. They also got to stroll through the lovely grounds around the centre and they were treated to a plentiful supply of tea and biscuits at break and lunch time. The day ended in a beautiful prayer service where many of the girls got to showcase their talents.
World Book Day
On Friday March 8th we celebrated World Book Day in Sixth Class. Everyone dressed up as the character from their favourite book and we enjoyed lots of book related activities such as D.E.A.R. time, making our own book covers and writing book reviews.
Science Blast Exhibition
On Thursday March 7th 2019, 6th Class had an early start as they headed to the RDS to present their project at the Science Blast exhibiton. The project was titled 'I Sea, You Sea, We Sea the Problem: How is Marine Pollution Affecting Irish Waters?' The day was a huge success as there was such a variety of things to do and see. The class took turns presenting the project to judges and visitors in small groups, while they also had plenty of time to explore other schools' projects and watch the variety of shows on offer which included 'The XX Factor', a show about female scientists, and 'The Science of Breakdancing.' There were also a range of activities to enjoy such as slime making, kite making and circuit building, while the free merchandise went down a treat! Well done to the girls who worked so hard on their project and represented the school excellently in the RDS.
