Bunscoil Bhríde, Rathangan

An Active School, a Green School, a Digital School of Distinction and a STEM Award-Winning School

Bunscoil Bhríde is a 17-teacher girls’ primary school, located in the picturesque village of Rathangan, in Co. Kildare.

In September 2020, we opened our Bluebells Class; a special class for girls with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We are very proud to have been recognised and awarded as an Active School, a Digital School of Distinction and are one of the few schools in the country to have been awarded ten Green Flags. We are also recipients of the Discover Primary Science Award over the last ten years and boast success in a range of team sports.

At Bunscoil Bhríde we provide high quality education in a safe, respectful, happy, collaborative and inclusive environment that builds the foundation for life-long learning.

We aim to nurture a Christian atmosphere that cultivates good relationships, strong friendships and teamwork, based on kindness and respect between staff, pupils, parents and the local community. Our vision is a school community where all children feel loved, valued, respected and encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.

10th Green Flag for Bunscoil Bhríde

We are immensely proud to report that we have just been awarded our TENTH Green Flag. I would like to congratulate Ms. Ryan and our fabulous Green Schools Committee on such a remarkable achievement. There are not many schools in the country that can boast having ten green flags. We are so very fortunate to have an outstanding committee, as well as an extremely supportive whole-school community. Well done everyone! We celebrated the raising of our 10th Green Flag in the school on 9th June. Read all about it here.

History of Rathangan

Rathangan gets its name from ‘Iomgháins Rath’, the remains of which still can be seen at the top of the town.

Throughout the years, the town has been shaped by many influences and events such as the 1798 Rebellion, the Grand Canal and Bórd na Móna.
