This year Bunscoil Bhríde will be working towards achieving our second Active Schools flag.
Bearing in mind that it is recommended that all children should be taking part in moderate to vigorous exercise for sixty minutes every day, the Active schools committee has come up with lots of good ideas to encourage us all to be more active.
The Active Schools committee 2016/2017 represents children from 1st to 6th class.
We began the year with a competition to think of a new Active School motto. We received lots of entries. The winning entry came from girls in fourth class. Congratulations to Emily Doyle, Ciara Dunne, Mischa Conroy, and Chloe Websdale who came up with the motto:
"We are healthy, we are fit, because we do our active bit".
In October the committee decided that the whole school could start training for a 5 kilometre run which will take place in the spring. We need to start the training for this now and all classes in the school are incorporating stamina building into their PE programmes. We will be running laps of the yard regularly in school and we hope that all our families can do something similar at home.
Another new initiative will be PE homework. The children have their own password to log on to the site www.fit4skool.com. If you have access to the internet they can log in and perhaps everyone at home could join in the fun exercises. We would encourage all children to skip at home as skipping is a great way to get fit and good fun too.
